How to log and import from SQL

Last Updated: Aug 16, 2013 05:03PM PDT
Forefront TMG can be configured to log to a remote SQL Server, and there are many great reasons to do this.

Configuring Forefront TMG

If you are interested in configuring Forefront TMG to log to a remote SQL Database, here is a great article that takes you through the process:

Importing into TMG Reporter

Once Forefront TMG is logging to a remote SQL database, you can import your log data directly into TMG Reporter without the need to install the Fastvue Arbiter agent on your TMG Server. TMG Reporter will establish an SQL connection to your database and read your logs directly.

For more information on how to import data from your database into TMG Reporter, please see our article: Reporting on Forefront TMG's Remote SQL Database.

‚ÄčLicensing

Also note that TMG Reporter's licensing is based on the number of Forefront TMG servers you need to monitor. Collating all your TMG Server's logs into one central database does not mean you are only monitoring one server. TMG Reporters licensing model is still enforced regardless of the logging method being used.
