Hi, Is it possible to install this to a mapped drive or alternatively store the data.fvfs & temp folders on a mapped / network drive? I have a server that I want to install this on [slightly under spec but should be ok] but it doesn't have enough storage at present. We do however have 5TB of storage on the TMG server that I would like to utilise if possible.

Hi Dave

Generally, it is OK to change the Data Location to a NAS or SAN location - as long as you have fast (GB) access to the drive. TMG Reporter generates a fair amount of disk IO, so introducing any network latency will degrade performance.

However, I wouldn't recommend keeping the data on a mission critical server like your Firewall.

Although there is a data retention policy (specified in Settings | Data Storage) it only applies to the Data.fvfs folder. The temp folder still has the potential to get quite large if there is not enough CPU power to process all the incoming records in a timely fashion, or if TMG Reporter gets 'backed-up' due to the data being stored over the network.

The last thing we'd want is for TMG Reporter to consume all the disk space on your TMG Server and affect your company's network access.

If you do decide to change the data location, make sure you use a UNC path rather than a mapped drive. That is, use \\myserver\mydata, rather than X:\mydata. The reason for this is that the mapped drive will not exist if you log off the machine.

I hope this helps!

Hey Dave,

We have just added another Knowledge Base article on moving TMG Reporter's data location:

It includes some other important information regarding permissions.

Hope it helps!
