Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

Yes, we actually recommend installing Fastvue Reporter on a different server in our getting started guide at https://www.fastvue.co/tmgreporter/getting-started

The main 'problem' with reporting on TMG from a remote server is that its logs are in a secure database on the TMG server. To access these logs as securely as possible, we created the Fastvue Arbiter which is a very lightweight agent that you _do_ install on your TMG Server. All it does is connects to your logs and securely passes the information over to your Fastvue Reporter server on port 49361 where all the processing takes place.

This means you don't have to open up TMG's SQL Express database to network access, or open file shares on your firewall for Fastvue Reporter to access the logs.

If you don't want to install the lightweight Fastvue Arbiter on your TMG Server, then you can configure your TMG Server to log to a separate off-box SQL server. Then TMG Reporter can import logs directly from the SQL Server. See: https://www.fastvue.co/tmgreporter/blog/reporting-on-forefront-tmgs-remote-sql-database

I hope this helps!

Cheers!
Scott
